1 of 6 Wis banks post loss in the 3rd quarter
MILWAUKEE (AP) One of every six Wisconsin banks posted a loss in the third quarter.
It shows communities large and small are feeling the effects of the housing slump, financial crisis and slowing economy. But it's better than banks nationally, with nearly one in four not making a profit in the quarter.
There are 252 commercial banks chartered in the state and 36 savings banks. In last year's third quarter, 20 Wisconsin banks recorded a loss.
Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. says earnings at Wisconsin's commercial banks fell 73 percent in the third quarter, and 49 banks in the state didn't turn a profit at all.

Rooster, you hit one of the problems on the head. Journalists that spread misleading facts and readers who can't cypher them.

Roadmaster, thanks for the link to the Journal - wish the Gazette would bless us more frequently with prevalent business articles - virtually everyone has some relationship with a bank and it's nice to be informed on its financial status

danias, there is probably a close correlation between banks that are in the red and banks that are getting serious about delinquencies. I hope you get a successful workout.
