MILWAUKEE (AP) Milwaukee police say a 24-year-old man was robbed and shot in the back during a home invasion Sunday night.

The man was taken to a Milwaukee area hospital. Police say he was in stable condition Monday and his injuries are not life threatening.

It is illegal to shoot someone who has entered your property illegally in Wisconsin. If you all remember, they thought about charging the Doc. with a crime when he shot that intruder in his home. They make it a crime, but rarely does any charges stick if the shooting is justified, like in the case of the Doc. Wisconsin feels that it is better to make it illegal and work back from that. They would rather have citizens think twice before using deadly force, than to make it alright from the point where a criminal enters your property. With that said, I feel strongly about being able to carry a weapon, and you do have the right to carry a concealed weapon in your own home. You have the right to carry an unconcealed weapon around your property, however, you may get charged with disturbing the peace if someone calls the police to report you walking around your house with a gun holstered on your belt. Same thing applies to carrying unconcealed in public, you just can't go into bars, banks, and govt. buildings with your weapon. I wish Wisconsin had a conceal carry law, I for one would take part...

Since people can't get concealed carry permits in Wisconsin, they are far less likely to buy holsters for carrying firearms on their person.
.
Storing a firearm in the closet or in a desk or dresser drawer in another room in the house generally makes it harder to get to it in time if a gang of robbers breaks into your home.
.
If you have a holster suitable for carrying a handgun concealed, you would be more likely to keep the firearm on your person at home (ESPECIALLY if you have the misfortune to live in Milwaukee) and could immediately draw it and defend yourself against a home invasion.
.
Without the immediately accessible firearm, your options are to try to escape (and get shot in the back) or freeze and hope complying with the intruders doesn't get you tortured in an attempt to force you to reveal the location of valuables, and/or sexually assaulted because that helpless look in your eyes turns them on, and/or murdered to prevent your being a witness.
.
Having a gun locked in a gun safe puts you at a great disadvantage in the event of a home invasion. Having one in your hands forces the criminals to decide if the risks of being shot by you are worth the potential rewards of staying and fighting you.
.
As Florida - and many other states which have adopted a concealed carry weapon law found out - criminals soon decide that breaking into homes that are NOT occupied (or stores or cars, etc) is a much safer crime for them to commit. A CCW may not reduce the numbers of crimes, but it does shift them from crimes against people to crimes against unoccupied properties.
.
If you live in a state where law-abiding citizens have the right, after being checked by the police and after taking and passing a training course in the responsibilities and use of firearm for self-defense, you can wonder which of your neighbors or which passers-by might be Good Samaritans and come to your aid if you are robbed or assaulted.
.
If you live in a state where law-abiding citizens don't have that right, you can only wonder which neighbor or passer-by will be telling the TV news crew "I saw the whole thing from accross the street. It was terrible what they did to that defenseless person."

Hysterical hoplophobes would do well to realize that when law-abiding citizens can carry concealed weapons, fewer criminals do carry them.

That criminal was B'moon's brother. The police did not prosecute the home owner and ruled that the shooting was justified.

When the criminal sued the home owner, the judge threw the case out of court.

The criminal received a long prison sentence as an habitual.

Wasn't there a story awhile back about an intruder who fell through the roof and was shot by the homeowner and was sued by the robber?
AND is it not true that WI does NOT have any self defense laws to protect the public? So if you shot an intruder in your home you could be prosecuted?
AND how does carrying a concealed weapon apply in an individuals home??

Okay ms sassy… you asked for it… You’re crazy. Being shot in the back more than likely suggests that he was trying to get away from the intruders. Probably because he had no means to defend himself. I can’t speak for anyone else, but even if it is 3 against 1, don’t bet against me in my home. Do you know that WI is one of only two states that doesn’t trust its law abiding citizens with some kind of concealed carry program? That offends me to the core. At least if it were legal to carry, you could choose if you want to defend yourself, or if you want to beg for your life and hope the police can piece together enough evidence to make an arrest. Or maybe you could just explain to the bad guys that guns are not the answer and that they should just put their heads down, reflect on the decisions they’ve made, and wait for the cops to show up. Yea… that will work.

It's time for another exciting round of contrapositive fill-in-the-blank:

If I was a criminal and i thought everyone around me had a gun, I would /not/ think twice before _____ing them first.

Survey says!

If I was a criminal and i thought everyone around me had a gun. I would think twice before robbing them. Plus I would feel safer in general know that if some guy came up behind me while i was filling up my car with gas and put a knife to my back that maybe the other guy would shoot his a**

yes, and shooting someone (or THREE intruders) around your back. This isn't the Harlem Globetrotters...

Statistically, the odds are NOT in your favor to actually shoot intruders when there: is more than a 1-1 "gun fight"; or you are startled and caught off guard; or not able to actually "SEE" or aim at the intruders.

Being shot in the back kind of suggests to me that the victim had no idea there were even intruders in his home.

Call me crazy, but MORE guns is NOT the solution...yes, we have a right to bear arms and protect our property...but conceal/carry, etc. is not going to help.

This is why I think people should have guns in the home. I would have shot all three of them dead
