Body found in vehicle in Kiwanis Pond

JANESVILLE—A Janesville Fire Department dive team pulled the body of an adult man from a vehicle in Kiwanis Pond about 10 a.m. today, said Tim Ehlers, fire department shift commander.

A fisherman noticed a red sport utility vehicle in the water at the end of the fishing pier in the pond near Blackhawk Golf Course on Palmer Drive on Janesville’s east side. The vehicle apparently drove down the boat ramp, Ehlers said.

Ehlers didn’t know when the vehicle drove into the water, but there were no tracks in the snow, he said. The vehicle was in about 18 feet of water, according to a Janesville Gazette photographer on the scene.

“We were treating it as a body recovery because of the length of time the SUV was in the water,” Ehlers said.

The family is in my thoughts and my prayers. May they be at peace this holiday season... ALSO... for the person who commented about checking parks every few hours? Are you kidding? Obviously you spend enough time on this site you must relize that JPD has more things to do than just drive around from place to place.

Two observations....and one comment.
.
Ignorance (as evidenced by some of these posts) was, is and will continue to be, a sad part of human nature.
.
Technology in the form of computers and the internet tends to bring out both the very good side of people and the very bad side of people.
.
May this family find peace and solace in the face of tragedy.

To the ill advised people: Yes the pond is deep, and to the long time Janesville residents that know this pond "AS" atlas pit. Who ever thought they had to try and confuse & take away the name most older people know it by,i'll never understand! Hope they find out what happened though!!

Some one sent this to me when i lost someone. Hope it helps u like it helped me. I do not know who wrote it

If tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
the way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
that an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,
In heaven far above ,
And that I'd have to leave behind
all those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye,
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
it seemed almost impossible,
that I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all that we shared,
And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
and maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss some tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home.
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne,

He said, 'This is eternity,
And all I've promised you.'
Today your life on earth is past,
but here life starts anew.

I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
and since each day is the same way,
There's no longing for the past.

So when tomorrow starts without me,
don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart '

Observing, thank you so much for your words of wisdom. I apologize if my words got misconstrued. I pray for your family! There are two things that I would not want to be granted on anyone... death and divorce. The pain that both of them create is typically more than could be described.

I pray that you and your family obtain answers and peace to how this tragedy occurred to your loved one.

God be with you!

from: Devotions Upon Emergent Occasions
John Donne
XVII. Meditation.

No man is an island,
entire of itself;
every man is a piece of the continent,
a part of the main.
If a clod be washed away by the sea,
Europe is the less,
as well as if a promontory were,
as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were:
any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind,
and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls;
it tolls for thee.

First off let me say Thank you to the people posting here that have tried to tone down the guessing game. I am a very close relative of this man, very close!. In my wildness dreams I would never comment about someone's tragedy where a friend or family member would read and feel the stabbing pain the comments do. I was brought up that when someone passes over you always remember the good about them and leave the negative unsaid. This man was under Dr. care for seizures some of which put him in the hospital at different times and was taking their toll on his memory. For the ones that like to assume, I don't know what caused his death but in my mind I want to think he was either confused and lost or that he was sitting by the water thinking and had a seizure, I pray to God he didn't knowingly suffer. We the family will live with the empty chair at our holiday tables, with less presents under the tree, one less birthday to celebrate every year so for those who like to make their snide little comments just remember your comment when the day comes and you have a love one that passes, how do you want others to remember them ? Would you want someone you love to lose someone and then read something mean to add to their grief? I would also like to know how the news media was able to write this as a suicide since the autopsy has just begun and family members haven't even gotten any of this knowledge. It's just wonderful that we the family haven't even had time to digest what has happened and yet everyone else seems to have all the answers. He was a good person and would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. Under the circumstances unless you were in this man's head reading his thoughts or he told you something directly, this is a case where no one will really ever know the truth so keep your guesses to yourself and let the family have some type of closure, please.
Love you Brother. Rest in Peace!

I don't feel like what michellemt640 said as I only assumed that because the article said there was no tracks in the snow, it must have happened before it snowed.

The ramp requires a turn, and there's the pier to avoid (or is it taken up this time of year?), so it may not be accidental. Even so, people commit suicide for a variety of reasons.

Nurse, The article states that there was no tracks in the snow, so my assumption would be that it happened before it snowed.
It could be many, many things. Suicide, murder, drunk, accident. Who knows at this point?

The article states he drove off the boat ramp. He may have been confused because of the snow and thought it was a road and was trapped. It could be a tragic accident.
