MADISON, Wis. (AP) President-elect Barack Obama singled out Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle in a video address shown at a global warming summit in Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Doyle is one of the co-hosts of the meeting, and is scheduled to speak and participate in a panel discussion on Wednesday.

Obama commended Doyle, and the governors of Kansas, Florida, Illinois and California as being leaders in the fight against global warming.

Representatives from about 22 states as well as government officials from a number of foreign countries are at the meeting.

The meeting is bringing together scientists, environmentalists and government and industry officials to discuss ways to combat global warming and climate change

I don't feel any warmer. When is global warming going to effect me? I'm cold...

Is there an easy way of telling if the AP article is being summarized or quoted verbatim?

Slightly more on topic, I have to recount an awesome bumper sticker I saw. "Stop Global Warming: Turn Off the Sun"

True, but it's not the entire story, simply a summary. I agree it is a bit strange but I have noticed that several newspaper websites don't have commenting enabled on AP stories printed verbatim.

But this article is from the AP as well.

"I hope Obama takes Doyle to Washington. It will be the best thing for Wisconsin."
.
Please, NO.
.
That would mean we'd be stuck with Barbara Lawton as Governor. And that is an even scarier thought than Doyle.

ktaustin,
I think it has to do with the fact that the other story is an AP story while this is a blog by Gazette staff. On this site, the AP stories do not have comments enabled while the blogs, opinion pieces, and staff pieces do.

How is it determined which articles can be commented? For example, this article can be commented, but the general article about the climate meeting cannot. So we're allowed to comment on Obama commending Doyle (whop-tee-doo), but not about the climate meeting itself?
