From the WCLO newsroom:

Construction officially begins Monday morning on a new hospital in Janesville.

SSM Health Care of Wisconsin and Dean Health System are breaking ground for the new St. Mary’s Janesville Hospital. Dean and SSM Health Care announced construction of the 50-bed hospital and physician office complex last April.

Construction of the new facility is expected to take most of two years.

if you dont like mercy go elsewhere its your choice, the grossly exxaggerated stories of bad times at mercy get old. its the same 10 people every time on here complaining, go somewhere else, theres 99.9% more people in janesville that will keep both going.

I'm with you on this one MKS. I have taken my children, my husband, and myself to both the ER and the Urgent Care over the years--we were always treated well. Sure, there was some wait time on occasion that seemed excessively long, but I tend to believe that there were people in much worse shape being treated first. The one time that my husband was having chest pain (and he looked like it), they took him right back.

I have also been witness to the abuse that staff has to take from people who have to wait for care. I don't really believe that the staff intentionally allows people to suffer in waiting rooms if there are other options.

I believe that there will be the same kind of complaints when we have two hospitals in town. My family moved here from out of state, from a town that was similar in size to Janesville. They also had 2 hospitals and the politics and public complaints were just about what they are here.

Go figure.....

I just started at Mercy. I had a bad experience there years ago but now that I think on it-it was one experience. I've seen lots of awesome care given to people there and hope to continue with that. Like in the food service business that I had beenin for years and years I think it comes down to mainly hearing the negative and rarely the positive. People like to complain.
As far as singing and dancing I did hear one patient singing from his room. Wonderful voice and he didn't seem to hate Mercy.

Hello Dinger, apparently you've never been to the morgue, where the "Dead can Dance". It's like a musical version of "Dawn of the Dead". LOL

Yes,I have seen Bringing Out the Dead. I've worked at Mercy for many years and never have seen dancing, singing & whistling but never dancing. It would be interesting though Raimondo!

Where exactly is the new hospital going to be? I don't mind Mercy but I prefer Dean because I love my daughter's doctor and mine. The only doctor I had through Mercy doesn't practice anymore. But soon I might have their insurance again so I will have to find the right one. If anyone has any recommendations let me know!

Misery (Slang for Mercy to those of you who haven't seen Scorsese's "Bringing Out the Dead") may indeed "suck". But the singing and dancing that goes on there is outstanding. It's like a campier version of "Scrubs" with a little "House" thrown in for drama!

I just hope that the noise from the construction isn't too loud. My mother and her neighbors, the Bakers, already have to put up with the constant noise caused by Silah and Sons rock quarry operation despite their promise that, "You'll never hear us!" when trying to get us to support them at the LaPrairie Town Hall meeting.

Piznat,
Keeping it short & straight to the point! Good job!! There are A LOT of people that would agree!!!

Mks2008,
You are just lucky that you are not one of the unfortunate one's that have had to experience such a horrible time at Mercy! Once you do...u might be a little more understanding!!

Dean Riverview's new hospital will be very small if you need anything big done you will still have to go to madison. Mercy will survive but don't know about the new Edgerton or the Beloit facilites as more and more people lose their health benefits. All hospitals are a business now days, they have to do whats best to keep afloat. I have had nothing but the best of care at mercy and I'm glad I can stay in town for my services.

HA! Not at all guys. I've only lived here a short time, but I'm amazed at the same people who come here every time a Mercy article is written, and they use it as their personal platform to bash the only hospital in town. If you have a REAL problem, then do something about it constructively or keep your mouth shut. I hate the bandwagon haters that come around here. So many of them have terrible spelling and grammar, and they sound completely uneducated. No one will take you seriously when you present yourself like that.

UH OH!!! you know what this means??? all the mercy haters have ANOTHER Gazette article to post their bitching to so that everyone who doesn't care gets to read it!!! How long will it be before someone tells us patients were laying on the ground in the ER next to puke buckets this weekend?? And the only reason they know is because they were waiting from Friday night until the time this article was posted before a Mercy ER doc saw them. And I will bet ALL the ER staff stood and watched you from behind the glass because they have NOTHING better to do. I will forever be amazed at how many uneducated, unreasonable people post their "true stories" to this site. Good luck to St. Mary's and Dean on this Hospital. I think it will be fun to watch it be built, but i hope for your sake the economy in an already shaky community improves by then so that you actually make money and not just pad your pride because you built in janesville.
