From the WCLO newsroom:

The Rock County Sheriff's Office has a few more dollars to work with in these tight economic times.

The money actually comes from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of transportation Safety in the form of two grants. The first worth $15,000 to help the sheriff's office crack down on speeders. Sheriff Robert Spoden says speed related rashes killed 251, and injured close to 11,000 people last year, and his office will strive to get drivers to voluntarily comply with the posted limits, or deputies will be writing tickets. The other grant totals 25,000 and is intended to crackdown on drunk drivers. Spoden says alcohol-related crashes in Wisconsin killed 337 people and injured 5552 last year.

The money will be used for overtime and to purchase new equipment for improved enforcement.

I think awareness even with parents is more so now then when I grew up. It was often we were given a glass of beer or wine and nothing was thought of it also you could take your kid in a bar and buy him a drink you had to hand it to them tho.I dont know if you can still do this as I dont drink nor do I go to bars anymore. I have never condoned my kids (4 boys) to drink. Now there adults If they drink I tell them not to drive or stay where they party at or call. Now I hope they find away to get the ones that use other drugs off the highway too.

How can you say you are trying to keep drunk drivers off the road......... Read the sentencing of some of them. "She is not to drive while drinking or in a bar with her vehicle." This person has three drunk driving charges. And why does she even have a car - why isn't her license revoked.. What are you talking about. Have the Judges start doing their jobs. To keep the roads safe.

It's so generous of the state to give us some of our own money back.

They must be using some of that money to patrol Hwy 26 south of Milton to Janesville. Over the past three weeks on my morning commute I've seen vehicles pulled over by sheriff's deputies nearly every single day. Sometimes two patrol cars have vehicles pulled over. Anyone driving that route had best watch their speed.
