From the WCLO newsroom:

Janesville's Rockport pool users will likely pay a little more for daily passes in 2009.

Leisure Services Director Mike Williams says the city does not believe the Rockport pool fee increase, approximately $0.50 for youth and $0.50 for adults will receive a negative reaction from the public

In 2002, the city manager dramatically lowered fees in an effort to get more people to use the facilities.

The council is also modifying the Palmer Park's wading pool's hours to 11:00 to 7:00, opening it a week later than normal, and closing all pools one week earlier in the season.

The council votes on the budget November 24.

No, I sent my kids to swim lessons and taught them pool rules, after an akward incident. I took them to a pool with water wings, they were not allowed in the water. I questioned the guard as to why, straight up he said, If they can't swim without floats they are not allowed in the water", they were 5 & 7. I realzed at that point how important swimming is and made sure they were strong swimmers. When they were 8 & 10 they were strong swimmers and I could take a nap in the sun.

Good bye, spacejam. I hope you can find a place that is NOT effected by the NATIONAL economy. I have lived in WI, ALL my life, and I have been to 42 states, I will choose WI everytime. More beauty, cleaner, and most people are nicer than anyone I met in other states.
Good luck to you.

I have no problem paying 50 cents more. My kids enjoy going to the pool, it is well kept, and well supervised. I can drop them off, and have a little ME time for a few hours, ITS WORTH IT!!!

What a double standard!!!!!!!
Janesville and Wisconsin is one big joke! This state and city needs to get real before they tax people right out of the city and state. "Mark my words " We will see more people leave this state and city due to taxes. The city and state population will drop big time.
Not to mention the unemployment rate that will rise like we have never seen before. My family is moving out of this over taxed state and city in two weeks. We can't wait!!!

Well not like thats a huge price hike or anything... I think it's fair and if I take the kids there I'll still pay the price...

happycamper, I don't get the smotherhood comment. Don't you go to the pools and watch your kids to make sure they are safe? I don't let my kids out of my sight when they are in the water, even my 14 year old.

I'm so glad the northwoods has free swimming everywhere...clean lakes! The only public pool we have is at the Y. Too bad Lion's Beach is such a hole. I thought that was a fun place as a kid, wouldn't put my foot in there now!

They are raising fees to pay for the pool! People in Janesville want everything for free! The average to get into a pool in Wisconsin is $3.50. last year Janesville's pool averaged $.51 per person, thats fifty one cents! How do you upkeep or improve a pool charging those puney fees. Edgerton, Fort and Madison pools are not state of the art, they are just someplace other than Janesville. Kids just want water, adults feel kids need to be watched every minute and smothered with attention. Smotherhood is no way to raise your kids!

People still go to the crumbling Rockport Pool?

I'm OK with higher user fees. I am willing to pay higher user fees on services I use, and others should expect to pay also. The days of low cost, tax supported services are going away and will be determined by the future of the economy...it doesn't look good.

No, no Garyprimer, government is of the opinion that higher fees and taxes stimulate economic activity on all levels and they will now be attempting to prove it after that perceived mandate from the last election.

So now they are raising the fees in an attempt to discourage use?
