Sheridan selected Assembly speaker
The first Democrat to be speaker of the state Assembly in 14 years will be Rep. Mike Sheridan of Janesville.
Sheridan was chosen by his fellow Democrats in a secret vote on Wednesday. He defeated Rep. Jon Richards of Milwaukee.
A four-year veteran of the Assembly, Sheridan is a former president of the United Auto Workers in Janesville. He will serve as speaker for the next two years.
Democrats are in control of the Assembly for the first time since 1994. They also are in the majority in the Senate and the governor’s office, giving them complete control in the Capitol.

Doc, thank you for backing me up. Beefer, who are you? Do you work for the Gazette? My comments have been insightful and positive.
I suggest you mind your own business. What I say has importance.

Where did I say he was responsible?
Just saying he and all the "leaders" are going to be taking the heat when things really hit the fan.
Things will be bad no matter who is in charge. The taxing and endless bailout policies that the democrats are all in favor of, will just exasperate the problems even worse then they are are going to be.

It's interesting, kiowamohican, that you seem to consider a depression certain and foreordained... but you want to hold responsible the person who was just now elected to a post. How does that work, exactly?

Just looking for better odds kiowamohican. How about I take the under at 100-1?

Darn it, you ruined it for my over/under. I was hoping some people would take me up on the under. Your post articulates EXACTLY what is going to happen, and why you will not just see unemployment sky rocket in this state, but pretty much all over the country. All these liberals will soon see the DISASTROUS effects that tax increases have amidst a deep recessionary economy.

Mike good appointment. I just hope you dont become a disappointment. You put your political career ahead of the union workers IMO and now you go on and they go down, and I only hope you can committ yourself to the people and not just for your personal gain.I am trusting you with reservations and hope you are sincerely for the ones who kept you in office.

With the budget deficit at $5 billion the hurt will come on quite a few businesses, the UW system and or tuition paying students. The transportation budget has already been raped and now higher taxes and an unfriendly business climate will drive state-line businesses out of the state, the tax base will fall and unemployment skyrocket. Doyle's "balancing" the budget with smoke and mirrors has dug him a hole. Sheridan will have Doyle to blame after he bails on us to take a Obama appointment instead of facing the deficit.

Anyone care to take a guess on the unemployment rate in Wisconsin come 2010? I will set the over under at 15%. When it all comes crashing down, it's going to be hilarious to see Sheridan, and all those in power take the heat.

To Mike S: I could care less about your party affiliation. And don't tell us "I'll work with the folks on the other side of the isle". Your district elected you. You're working on our behalf, not against another party. Surprise us Mike...and actually get something accomplished. Make your mark. Make your employers proud: US! We're watching...closer than ever.

Here's the way I see it.
.
Way back when...as UAW president, when President George Bush visited Janesville, Sheridan showed his political exuberance and leadership immaturity.
.
Later, in the Woodman's labor dispute, his exuberance was tempered, but his immaturity was front and center.
.
Hopefully, he has learned a thing or two and will sincerely make an honest attempt to work across the aisle.
.
I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
.
However, if it turns otherwise, I hope he, and all voters remember, his job is classifieed as LTE...Limited Term Employment.
.
If not, shame on us.
.
Mike...we're watching you.

A secret vote? (This isn't the Water Buffalo lodge and we aren't voting for Fred Flintstone), as far as I knew voting was secret unless you told someone who you voted for. I sure hope he takes this position seriously and can help his own local community. Now that you all have complete control in the Capitol there will be nobody else to blame so you guys have the ball now, what are you gonna do with it?

No doubt the first order of business will be to contact all their Democratic colleges in DC to get a piece of the bailout $$$ when they see how screwed the state budget is, and just how MASSIVE the debt really is. California has all ready done this, and many states are now following.
.
After the economy completely falls off a cliff, Sheridan and all these "leaders" will be the ones saddled with all the blame. Sheridan thought Bush was a disaster for the economy? HAHAHAHHA...Just wait, you have seen NOTHING yet my friends!
.
BEST OF LUCK!

Also, does Mike support "Card Check" legislation which removes the secret ballot from workers voting on unionization? He was voted Speaker by secret ballot. It would be wrong to take the secret ballot from workers.

Mike's has a very low rating with it comes to busines but a high rating when it comes to labor. Problem is, without business there is no labor. Notice how busniess is growing in low tax states with Right to Work laws, whereas high tax state without Right to Work laws are suffering. Will Mike help bring change the climate in Wisconsin that attracks businesses and brings jobs?

magneto1: at the very least he has opted to serve as an elected representative of the people...a fairly thankless job, where the public is quick to criticize (and frequently, the public is correct.)
Regardless, Rep. Sheridan is a good guy, and should be congratulated for his selection by his colleagues in the Assembly for deeming him appropriate for the Speakership.
Now, can you answer your own question: What have YOU done for Janesville or Wisconsin?
