MADISON, Wis. (AP) A group of health care providers is forming a coalition to push for new laws to fight alcohol abuse.

The All-Wisconsin Alcohol Risk Education coalition wants legislation to curb drunken driving and underage drinking and to force insurers to cover injuries caused by drunken driving.

UW Health planned to announce members of the coalition Tuesday afternoon at the state Capitol.

UW Health spokeswoman Lisa Brunette says discussions about a coalition were already under way, but recent newspaper articles by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel helped move the project along.

Gannett Wisconsin Media did a similar series on drinking in July.

UW Health is the University of Wisconsin-Madison's academic health system. Leaders say the coalition will include law enforcement, school groups and anti-drinking advocates, as well as other health care organizations.

Yeah! I guess when you work in a hospital (like I do) and see so many patients on a daily basis detoxing, suffering from withdrawal, or in liver failure it actually makes you realize how crappy alcohol can be! GO UW Health!

So does this mean soon I will not be allowed to go out and drink away my problems anymore?

One thing that might help would be a state standard on liquor licenses per capita, since Wisconsin is apparently the highest in the country on that score.
