An organizational review of the Milton Police Department made 54 recommendations for improvement.

The report, released Friday and discussed at a special common council meeting Tuesday, said the department has good staff but needs to improve its management. The department lacks formal procedures and policies in many areas, the report said.

Interim Chief Bob Roberts conducted the review during his tenure from March through August and completed the report in the months since. New Chief Jerry Schuetz presented the report Tuesday.

The department will focus on reorganizing its command structure and updating its policies and procedures in the short-term, Schuetz said. He will present a long-term plan in December, he said.
