MillerCoors cuts jobs after merger
MILWAUKEE (AP) — MillerCoors LLC said Wednesday it has cut 269 jobs so far as part of its efforts to save money.
The joint venture between SABMiller’s U.S. unit and Molson Coors Brewing Co. said it was on track to cut $500 million in spending over the next three years, and would realize $50 million in savings by the end of June, which is earlier than it had expected.
Of the most recent cuts, 100 were in Milwaukee, spokesman Julian Green said. That is where SABMiller’s U.S. unit was based. He said it was unclear how many of the remainder of those cuts came from Golden, Colo., where Molson Coors is based.
He said jobs could have come from other areas as well.
Green said the company plans to cut between 300 and 350 jobs in the next six months. The company plans to open a new headquarters in Chicago in June.
MillerCoors said Wednesday its net income for the combined company was 15 percent higher than the total they had posted a year earlier, when they were separate.
Total sales at MillerCoors, which started July 1, increased 2.1 percent to $1.95 billion.
It is aiming to cut costs to better compete with industry leader Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., which is preparing to sell itself to Belgian brewer InBev SA.

Leine's is actually owned by Miller. Leine's still brews their own beer and is basically independent, but at the end of the day, Miller is the one who sees their profits.
