Obama wins Wisconsin

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Tuesday, November 4, 2008 - 8:04 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) Democrat Barack Obama defeated John McCain in Wisconsin, capturing 10 electoral votes in a state that has not gone for a Republican since 1984.

Both candidates saw the state as winnable, but gave up campaigning about a month ago when polls showed Obama with a double-digit lead.

The call Tuesday was based on an analysis of voter interviews, conducted for The Associated Press by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International.

Those who voted for Obama say they hope the Wisconsin win will help propel him to the White House.

Eighty-eight-year-old Ed Malcheski of Madison says he's voted Democratic in every presidential election since the 1940s. But he says he never dreamed he would one day get to vote for an African American.

That is it, billnewbie-kudos for a post exceptionally well stated-and in my personal opinion the best one I've ever seen on these Gazette forums and especially about this subject. I think it needs to be on each of the forums here that are remotely related to the presidential campaigns and election. If anyone could possibly disagree with what you've written, everything else USA related is meaningless.

Sore losers on the right, poor winners on the left, gracelessness everywhere you look. This wasn't a war, it was an election. The losers need not be humiliated, the winners need not be excoriated. Want real change? Start with yourself. Congratulate the winners. Assure the losers. Love our country and our neighbors. I am not your enemy and you are not mine. Accomplish this and real change for the better is possible. Take vengeance for past defeats or plot vengeance for current defeats and you undermine our country to the delight of our enemies. We have a choice. We can work together to fix what’s wrong while saving what works, or we can oppose each other’s every move accomplishing nothing that won’t be undone later when the tide turns again, as it always does.

Yes you did: "I loved my country RIGHT UP TO THE POINT it decided to "freely" vote itself into socialism and elect someone with marxist ideas and turned its back on a true patriot." (emphasis mine)

If I were to say to you - "I hope you sink into the ocean like the Titanic"... would you think to yourself.. "wow, this person really loves my company"?? or "this person doesn't like me, and may even hate me"

I would say the latter.

whatdidyousay, you are the most dishonest poster on these blogs, bar NONE. These are the things you said, though you want to run and hide from them now. If these statements are not anti-American statements of hatred, then President-elect Obama is a right-wing conservative.
"YES, I hope this country sinks like a rock! This country elected a fool and deserves what it gets for doing so."
"I hope this country gets what it deserves now and sinks faster than the titanic!"
"I loved my country right up to the point it decided to "freely" vote itself into socialism."
In other words, you do not love your country now. You didn't get your way, so now you hate America. I understand why you now want to deny being a traitor, but, unfortunately for you, you've left the evidence behind. You haven't got the guts to admit it, but you don't have to. Your previous words speak for themselves.

Whatdidyousay – “I loved my country right up to the point it decided to "freely" vote itself into socialism and elect someone with marxist ideas and turned its back on a true patriot.” -- That sounds to me that you no longer love your country… But maybe I am just reading it wrong. Lets try another … “I hope this country sinks like a rock!” --- I don’t think that you said that with love… :)
WAIT – Here is my favorite one… “I hope this country gets what it deserves now and sinks faster than the titanic!” --- Now that right there… that’s love for your country.
.
I can’t believe that I breathe the same FREE air as you. I can’t believe I wake up in the same FREE country as you… and I can’t believe you when you say you have fought for this country… and I quote -- “I fought for this country once, never again if this is the reward you get for doing so.”
.
Unbelievable.

To begin: whatdidyousay: I would not call what you felt love if you are ready to give up on our country already, more like a feigned interest as long as the polititians were your type. If you truly loved it you still would. There is nothing truly Marxist about Obama, no more than Bush was a facist. Well, I guess you could say that he wants to help the people who need it through government programs. If this is what you call socialism, well ok, at least it is better than continuing on the country's current downward spiral.
And now to the fun post: kraut60,
Whether or not the wars were won/lost by politicians does not mean they were not won/lost. I also take issue with fighting for the constitution OR the president. What about cases where the president was ordering unconstitutional wars (ie. Bush and his lying to Congress, the U.N. and all our other allies about the reasons for entering conflict). It seems at times the biggest threat to the constitution are people who misuse it (many polititians on both ends of the spectrum). Also, if you look at the context of my original post, the only reason I brought up veterans was because it was used in a way to make one person's views on America more valid than non-veterans. This type of argument is not a good one. Just because someone was a veteran does not make them more American or even more patriotic, it just makes them a veteran and like you said there are lots of them.

From reading some of the posts on this website, it sickens me to think that some of you are my neighbors. I personally feel that Americans should not so much worry about WHO is their president, but what will be done ever the next four years and beyond. It’s not just Barack Obama that is going to be leading this country. There are plenty of others that have a hand in this as well. What happened to the “United” states of America? When you believe in something, don’t you personally want a chance to make that belief a reality? When you make a mistake, don’t you personally want a second chance? When you wake up in the morning, don’t you want to feel secure in your job, family, security and welfare? I know I want all of those things. It is the American Dream to make the most of your life. Who are we to say that Obama can’t handle the job of President? Or for that fact that McCain could? As Americans we should be proud that we are still in a country that its’ Government is chose by its’ people. We should be proud that there are people that are willing to risk their livelihood and lives for the better of this country and we should be respectful the all human beings that are willing to show us the same respect. We are such a strong country but I am afraid that people’s thoughts of humankind have changed so much that sometimes I think there is no going back….
.
I hope that Obama can start the wheels moving in the correction of our economy woes and get America back on track to success. Even if you don’t believe in everything Obama has promised to do, have faith that you live in the United States of America… the land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE…..

Should have stayed status quo with a job loss at GM and sat home collecting a pay check waiting for a hand out from Obama and the government. Kept my house as it could have headed to foreclosure. At the rate we are going why even have any ambition to work if our government will take care of us. Also tax the working people out of a pay check. America values are gone. Individuality responsiblity is gone.

I can't wait to see all of the jobs Obama will produce and also the construction of new schools. His only way to make things look good is to tax the working middle class to support all of his free loading lazy non working voters.

It's interesting how all of the young college voters under the age of 25 are supportive of Obama. They seem so naive and inexperienced just like Obama. Birds of a feather flock together. They barely have any life experiences in life with work, paying bills, raising children, paying taxes and possibly losing a job in a one income family. All you hear about is change but the change isn't specific enough. Yes, we've all seen a part of history last night. Also, I wish people would stop throwing around "I fought for this country" -- who cares, so did lots of other people. The last few times people have fought WE LOST, not something to be proud of. There are plenty of vets who don't brag and feel entitlement to more "freedom" than others. What you fought for did not bring us freedom or protection (unless you are talking WWII), you fought for money, power, idealism or some other vague thing that does not make us more free or safe, and definately should not make us proud. Also, it does not make you more American than liberals who don't want to fight. To me, not wanting to kill someone/be killed seems more intelligent than running willy nilly to enlist. I also hope people can unite again posters here can stop the ignorant post like futurerichguys "100 IQ, marrying cousins" post.

I understand that you're obviously very upset. Believe me, I've been there. After the last two elections I felt as though I'd had the wind knocked out of me. I hope you can come to terms with the fact that Obama is now your President. Support the idea of unity. Keep in mind that you still have every right to speak out against policies that you don't agree with, but be an American first.

We have a new president. What an awesome sight to view arms raised together in Grant Park in Chicago, as blacks and whites together celebrated Obama's victory! A new day is dawning. The spirit of America is alive and well.

I am grateful to see this transition in our country.

Smart would be to find REAL change! Neither major candidates qualified. They represented change in who leads America down the it's path. REAL intelligence recognizes the partisan stranglehold and wants to change paths. I am happy for Obama and his followers.

America needs to wake up and long for REAL change for the better.

This is a victory for everyone with an IQ greater than 100, for people who believe in education, and most importantly for people who don't believe in marrying their cousins. Finally after 8 years of dumb, we finally have smart leadership.

When Cocaine georgie was handed the office he did not win by the Supreme Court ne-con coalition in 2000, his college roommate and several other pals from his past told news sources that little bushkin was the one who always brought the cocaine and alcohol to their parties. When he was asked about it by reporters, Cocaine georgie responded, "I don't think Americans want to hear about that stuff." That may not sound like an admission to you, but it does to Americans.

I'll bet whatdidyousay's blood pressure is maxed. Couldn't happen to a bigger phony. As it turns out from his statements, he is the real anti-American. It was nice to hear John McCain accept defeat with class. God Bless America and President Obama.

The Republicans out there can be glad (kind of) that the Democrats didn't reach 60 seats in the senate.

I just wanted to point out how close Wisconsin was to going red in both the 2000 and 2004 election. It wasn't close last night. Excellent job to those who got involved. Thank you.

"Yes... the world is in trouble.
But the United States just set itself on a course to take the lead in its' healing."

I couldn't agree more!

Remember folks, today makes history. Your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will read about in school.
At least be proud that you took part in that, if anything.

Wow! I guess you really love your country. NOT.
Why would anyone who professes to love the USA say something like that? That is the most anti-American thing I have read in some time. What is wrong with you? You need help.

I never thought in my life time this would happen, but i am glad that white and black are just colors. Change is what has to happen,no more talking out the side of the mouth, put up,or shut up. We need our jobs back home, this man gives us the hope we need. And all you out their that think were all in big trouble, well what do you call the last 8 years, paid holidays? If our country kept on the same course,we are SO close to becoming a communist country,by having just rich & the poor, and the rich controlling our lifes,to me that is communist.

How do intelligent people manage to blind themselves to the facts that are out there? I do not want anyone to decide to throw out the constitution. That is just plain scarey. And equally scarey is that so many people sanction this statement, by supporting this candidate.

For those that say Republicans ran this country into the ground or "8 years of madness", what exactly are you referring to ? The Iraq invasion? ... because most Dems voted to invade Iraq. Subprime mortgage diasaster? ...yes, dems set up regulation that caused that.
I voted 3rd party, in a few years, the Obama voters (as well as some Reps) may understand Dem or Rep is akin to Coke or Pepsi.

The lesser of two evils lost Wisconsin. If Obama starts up his socialist ideas and gets back in bead with his buddies we are really screwed. The only thing positive out of this is that he will probably pick Doyle as a cabinet member and get his tax heavy ass out of here. Does Obama's Civilian patrol mean that we will have Black Panthers on each street corner?

This country didn't start the downhill slide until the Democrats took control of the Senate 2 years ago. Now they will have the White House, Senate and House of Representatives. Get ready to get taxed out of your shorts and have payrolls remain stagnant.
