Rock County Sheriff's deputies plan extra patrols around polls
From the WCLO newsroom:
Rock County Sheriff's deputies will be stepping up patrols around the county's rural polling places Tuesday.
Commander Troy Knudson says he's discussed contingencies with the Rock County Clerk. He says weather in Wisconsin is always an issue, and with the added traffic on election day it could be a problem.
At least three or four additional officers will be assigned to check polling places. Knudson says the cost of the staffing will be minimal.

The problem will again be if we only get smarter just a month before the next election.

I agree. This was all discussed 4 years ago and nothing changed. Are we going to get smarter before the next Presidential election?
Hhhmmm?

Quite frankly...I have no problem with laying down a thumbprint on everything from cashing a check to voting. BUT there should be no politics involved.

I dont know. I am not sure that anybody knows. But the fact is that without the ID check in place, it CAN happen. People get asked for their IDs all the time and don't complain. Why start complaining when it is time to vote? For those who say that having a photo ID puts a burden on the poor I would suggest that the state could provide FREE state ID's to those that are truely too poor to afford a $5 piece of plastic.

I don't disagree that better accountability should be incorporated in future elections....BUT....it was pretty blatant on Attorney General Van Hollens' part in his last minute posturing on this issue.

And how often does that ACTUALLY happen?

You have to prove residence to get registered. However, without checking identification when it comes time to actually cast a ballot, anybody can walk in and STEAL your vote. Checking ID would stop this.

When did the law change to require an ID to vote?

Perhaps the deputies could have been put to good use checking voter's identification

Tomorrow, the Republicans will probably file a report that the Democrats "stole" the election.

Seriously....what is a police presence suppose to accomplish?
Is anyone actually fearful of casting a ballot?
I mean, we're not voting for president of the teamsters union for crying out loud.
Sounds like someone is over reacting.
Has someone been in talking with Van Hollen?

Whatever....
3 out of our 4 children are voting for the first time... They've experienced moronic posts here - criticism and threats at work and ridicule from friends, while simply trying to discuss an issue. They will vote their convictions, being well informed on each candidate's stance.
I am proud of them, and they will be the next generation of decision makers. Take heed, they will decide our future....
If there are additional patrols to allow our children to feel safe to vote their conscience... so be it. Considering what some countries go through, to be allowed to partake in the democratic process... this is a small price to pay....

wow that is absolutly ridiculous, I am sure glad that is where my tax dollars are going...a useless excuse to give a few officers overtime.

Hey Happy, I never thought of the overtime this has cost thousands of cities and counties nationwide due to the Democratic part in force out the vote idea. Sorry, get out the vote. No one seems to care about that. I also am glad of the foresight here. I have seen outright rage in Democrats this year.

I for one am thankful that the Sheriff has the foresight to step up patrol. This has been a difficult and emotional election cycle for many county residents and knowing that law enforcement is being proactive to possible 'situations' is reassuring. You both talk about costs, but you probably both voted absentee - who's paying all the overtime and expense for that? The taxpayer...it's the price we pay and this is not excessive. The safety of the public is a community's top priority and the fact that they are ensuring that public safety deserves high praises.
