STEVENS POINT -- The Stevens Point School Board announced Friday that it has chosen Steven K. Johnson as its the new superintendent.

Johnson has been an administrator with the Janesville School District for more than 22 years. His current title is director of human and administrative resources.

The decision came after the board interviewed two candidates Tuesday. The other candidate was Michael Shimshak, superintendent of the Lodi School District.

Johnson will replace Superintendent Bette A. Lang, who retires June 30.

mydesk:

"leaving a huge asset" what does this mean? If it's an asset can the school district sell this asset? What is this asset worth in dollars?

You know Gazette....I really resent you taking my comment off. I was telling the truth. If you have not worked for the school system you have no idea what kind of stuff goes on. Steve Johnson leaving is a huge asset to the the Janesville School System.

Bookprincess who are you kidding. I worked for Dr. Johnson. He never uses the words "thank you." He treats his staff as servants. Find out truly who did the work in that office - wasn't him.

It is sad to read the comments from people in the district who have not worked closely with Dr. Johnson. It WILL be a great loss to the district and IS a great gain for Stevens Point. Dr. Johnson has the difficult job of trying to please numerous types of people while helping to run one of the largest school district in this state and has done an amazing job. My mama always said you can't please all of the people all of the time. It is truly a testament to our district to have such strong leaders. Dr. Johnson's 22 years of experience will be extremely difficult to replace. Best Wishes Steve.

Straight up a huge gain for a district if we can replace him with a forward thinking pro-education, pro-teacher, administrator.
