MILTON—Power is restored to about 800 Milton customers after Alliant Energy had an equipment failure at United Ethanol, triggering a reaction through the power grid this morning, Alliant Energy spokesman Steve Schultz said.

A switch gear failed at the ethanol plant, causing a loss of power to all customers on the same circuit as the plant, he said.

“We’re able to take the plant off that circuit and reenergize it so everybody else on the circuit is restored,” he said.

Crews are still working to restore power at the plant on the city’s eastside industrial park, he said.

The power outage included Milton High School, 114 W. High St.
