You need water for water skiing.

Just not too much water.

The Rock Aqua Jays Water Ski Show Team is canceling its Memorial Day weekend shows due to continued high water conditions. The team was slated to perform their first show of the season this Sunday evening and again on Memorial Day.

The Wednesday, May 28 show is still tentative.

The Rock Aqua Jays perform free water ski shows on the Rock River at Traxler Park twice weekly from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Shows start at 7:00 PM (6:30 PM in August).

To hankstevens; I also live on the Rock river, and NO ONE can predict conditions accurately during the spring. One or two heavy rainfalls north of here and the river will be rising, not dropping.

Note to editor, who's proof reading the article, May 30th DOESN'T fall on a Wednesday THIS YEAR. And a comment to Nutty, I've got a cottage on the same stretch of Rock River the "Jays" ski on, & this past Sunday a fallen tree went by large enough to hollow out for a canoe. You try skiing in those conditions, go right ahead.

"The Wednesday, May 30 show is still tentative."

By this time somebody should know with absolute certainty.

High water is dangerous on the Rock river because of very strong currents and debris such as trees, logs, piers, etc. They are capable of skiing in these conditions, but it's just not safe.

Hypothically speaking suppose they did cancel it because they were unable to practice after not sking since last season. Why would that be unacceptable? I'm not a skier but I can tell by watching them that it takes alot of practice to do the things they do. Yes, it would nice to have the show but not at the expense of an injury to a skier who hadn't had the chance to practice or prepare properly. There are plenty of shows to come so it isn't like this is the only opportunity for the public to see one. For whatever reason they've decided not to hold the show it's unfortunate but under these circumstances insufficent reason to insult them.

Never known the A Jays "to just stink". They practice year round. Check out how many tourneys they've won.
