Wisconsin lawmakers reach deal on $527M budget shortfall

By Associated Press   May 12, 2008 - 9:36 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin lawmakers say they have reached a deal to solve the state’s $527 million budget shortfall.

Democratic Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker’s office says a deal has been reached and details will be announced at a late Monday morning news conference in the Capitol

Republican Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch and Democratic Assembly Minority Leader Jim Kreuser of Kenosha are expected at the news conference.

Gov. Jim Doyle’s spokeswoman did not immediately return a message seeking comment.

Doyle had warned that without a deal by Tuesday, up to $260 million in bids for summer road projects could be in jeopardy.

Maybe the Governor is going to India to see how they and the ancient Hindus balance budgets.

We are the ones who elected this clown. I mean Governor. He's a liberal who would rather raise taxes and fees before making tough choices and cut state programs. I just hope this clown gets a job with Obama if Obama wins the White house. They would be great together taxing the hell out of all of us.

Lets see, Wisconsin is in the top 5 for state theft, I mean taxes. We have a half a bil shortfall in funding. Call me stupid, but when money is tight I cut some things out of my budget to make ends meet. Anybody else ever heard of that concept? Obviously our elected mobsters, I mean politicians haven't.

make Mr Doyle take the bus. State workers are sent around the state on state business. We have no rhyme or reason to send the govenor to Ireland. Employees who are paid travel expenses are scrutized greatly for their repayment of travel.

Instead of paying $900,000.oo in travel, make them take a bus if it's in the states...That would help some!!!

They will just raise car and truck registration fees again. It's not a tax it's a fee.(the government thinks were all dumb)

Refresh my memory, but hasn't our 'taxman' governor transferred $$ from the highway fund to pay for some of his other programs? Seems to me that it's time that those in Madison face the facts that when you don't have the money, you don't keep spending. I invite them to come and live in my home for a while and I'll introduce them to what happens when income doesn't meet expenses... you cut your expenses!!! It's time for this government to do it's job and reduce spending to the expected income of OUR MONEY! The answer to this wild spending is not more taxes!!!

I wonder how bad the hunters, fisherman, and other politically incorrect license holders, will take it on this budget for higher fees and licenses? Remember Doyle is the man who tried to outlaw every piece of ammunition in this state after 9/11. I do hope the Republicans are not letting him soak hunters again for another "fee increase". If he thought it would hurt gun owners in general, Doyle would jam an ammunition tax through at a rate of 1000%.

Boy, I can't wait to see what new tax and fee increases we have coming this time around. It's such a privilege to work to support the government in this state.
