Milton School District to change the way employees handle cash
From the WCLO newsroom:
The Milton School District is changing the way its employees handle money.
District Business Manager Diane Meyer says the change in policy is in direct response to thefts by a former employee. Melinda Quinn pled guilty last year to stealing $47,000 from the high school over five years. The school district is revising five policies at its Monday school board meeting.
Meyer says the new two handbooks are designed to be a reference for financial secretaries, budget managers and administrators about the proper handling of money.

It isn't just the Milton School District. Many small businesses and non-profits have similarly poor accounting practices. It's an open door for seasoned fraudsters, and temptation for previously honest people as well. Many times they slip into it gradually, and like gamblers who think they can always recoup their losses, they think they "intend" to pay the money back before they're discovered.
.
Having seen money disappear when only "trustworthy" people had access, I now know it's basically a matter of remembering to lock the barn door BEFORE the horses get out.

Mindy Quinn was always shady when I went to High School... I kinda figured that there was something not right about her. I'm glad she got caught. She deserved it. I thought she should have spent more time behind bars, but oh well.
