Sheiffer calls for economic summit
From the WCLO newsroom:
Janesville City Manager Steve Sheiffer says 20 years is long enough between economic summits and is proposing one for the summer.
Sheiffer admits the current economic news is challenging, but rather than saying, "woe is me...woe is me," Sheiffer suggests planning a strategy for the future. He says the economic summit 20 years ago help direct a clear path for the future, which has worked well.
A steering committee is expected to be established yet this month, and the event could be hosted within 60 to 90 days. Sheiffer says everyone will be invited to offer input.

What is the point of waiting? We need to get the ball rolling now. The new City Manager can get on board and caught up when the time comes. I'm glad he is taking the steps now.

I will be attending just name the date. I have voiced my concerns to Steve before.
Here are some foot notes. Janesville needs to appeal to bio tech, high tech, green companies. Also push for tourism, AKA a casino near I-90, and racine street. Janesville needs to have a bid in on any , and ever company looking to relocate, or start up. Janeville should consider jumping on board with a nuclear power plant on the rock river. That will take years to build, and dump big dollars into Janesville. Our next President John Mc already said that there will be nuclear power plants ordered by the Goverment around the country. So if Janesville shows a interest maybe we could have first shot. I can already hear some people no. But the City should say yes, and just go ahead, and do it like Milton did the ethanol plant which everyone knows was supported by higher ups, and Milton seemed like a great place to build. AKA Goverment directive, with little DNR.

Good idea, Mr. Sheiffer. At least someone is offering more than lip service. (cough...politicians...cough)

I'd suggest scheduling the summit for September 3rd, so the new city manager can attend. I don't think the city will get as much benefit from a summit managed by someone who has already scheduled retirement as it would by someone new to the city and without the emotional baggage.
