Feingold mum on presidential candidates
DE PERE (AP) — Sen. Russ Feingold still isn’t saying which Democratic presidential candidate he prefers.
At a listening session in De Pere on Saturday, Feingold said he’ll be happy either way, but he’s just anxious for the Democratic race to be resolved.
Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton have dueled in a fiercely contested battle for the nomination. Feingold said he voted for Obama in Wisconsin’s February primary but he hasn’t committed to backing the Illinois senator at the convention.

As I understand it, every citizen can exercise his/her right to vote and it is nobody's business who a person votes for. Many people are very vocal about it and show their support by endorsing a particular candidate, but the mere fact that Russ Feingold has an elected position does NOT mean that he owes the constituents any declaration of his vote.
I think he does a FINE job of representing the people of Wisconsin and it's refreshing to see that he still HAS a conscience, as it is difficult to find many in DC that have one...

Sorry, it was actually a censure http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/03/12/f...
Either way, it is what ruined his chances as being a candidate this year (and probably in the future).

Cocktail848,"Too bad he went nuts trying to impeach Bush". Um, I guess I missed something, just exactly when did Russ try to impeach Bush??? Russ is a Senator, not a Representative. Senators don't impeach. Many people have mistakenly tried to get Russ to impeach Bush, but he doesn't have the power to do so. Get an education will ya, or at least try fewer cocktails. And I don't believe Russ is angling for any position, he likes the job he has and thinks it's a very important one. He's just waiting for the voters to have their say. As it should be.

mabusejuvenalis - Well said! While some may dislike Feingold for having opposed the war and having remarkable foresight and courage working to impeach Bush, others (most?) are extremely proud that we have at least one man in Washington who does represent the PEOPLE with REAL compassion, understanding and wisdom. Thanks, Russ!!!

Part of holding back may be out of respect for both candidates. Russ has always been a very independent, "outsider" fixture in DC, and likely would be interested in no cabinet (or VP) post unless it allowed him freedom of conscience. That has always been his intelligent touchstone, and all should admire and be thankful for it.

Well, to be perfectly honest, the American people are probably more inclined to vote for a woman or a black guy than for a divorced Jewish guy.
.
That probably also goes for veep (though he won this DailyKos poll: http://www.dailykos.com/poll/1207843906_... ). If he's angling for anything, it may be a cabinet position. Last time there was a list, though, he was one of 20 uncommitted Dem Senators:

.
It's tricky this election because all the major Democratic candidates came from the Senate. Russ is probably just staying adroitly out of what has become a fairly bitter contest.

You would rather have Feingold as the Democratic nominee than Obama or Clinton? You must be kidding!!

Too bad he went nuts trying to impeach Bush (without the Dems behind him) and therefore ruined his chances of every being a viable candidate. I would rather have him as a candidate instead of the two yahoos that are fighting for the nom now. And then the other party has to put out a guy that will probably die in office if he is elected. What crappy choices this election.

Keeping his options open for a VP "yes" to both?
