Flood watch issued
From the National Weather Service:
A flood watch continues for a portion of south central Wisconsin, including Dane, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Rock and Sauk counties.
Strong low pressure will track from Kansas to northern Illinois today before crossing lower Michigan tonight. Warm and very moist Gulf of Mexico air drawn north into Wisconsin ahead of the low will be lifted up and over a strong warm front over northern Illinois. Periods of rain and thunderstorms will be common across southern Wisconsin. Widespread rainfall of 1 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts to 4 inches are expected.
Since minor river flooding from earlier snow melt is already underway, the heavy rainfall could result in moderate to perhaps major river flooding. Widespread flooding of creeks, streams, and low lying areas is also possible. Locally heavy thunderstorms may also produce flash flooding and urban flooding as well.
A flood watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
