MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Justice Louis Butler says he feels confident voters will return him to a 10-year seat on the Supreme Court.

Butler is trying to fend off a challenge from Burnett County Circuit Court Judge Michael Gableman in Tuesday's election. A sitting justice has not lost an election since 1967.

Butler says he has no idea whether Tuesday's election will be close but he feels good about his chances.

He says voters will reject attack ads and instead look to his integrity, experience and impartial approach to justice. He says he hopes turnout is higher than the 20 percent predicted.

Butler spoke to reporters at a Madison hotel before kicking off a campaign swing around the state.

How can one argue with that logic? If people are too stupid to vote for the right candidate, take that right away! In fact, democracy in general is soooo last century. Autocracy is the way to go. The benevolent dictatorship of the proletariat is the only fair form of government, I'm sure you will agree. That way, those who don't merit political status can be equitably dealt with before they can infect the minds of the masses.

I agree.
.

But I also think it's time to change the process for elevation to the states' highest bench. (Annette Ziegler comes to mind, but we'll save that discussion for another day)
.
Time to go to a merit / appointment system.

I have known Justice Butler since his days as a Municipal Judge in Milwaukee. After watching the debate last week, his opponent doesn't even merit 'also ran' status. In fact, considering how his opponent got his current job (sizable donation to Gov. McCallum, followed by appointment under questionable circumstances), I feel sorry for those who have to go before him for their share of justice.

Louis Butler is the CLEAR choice here.
