Milton candidates debate issues
A looming referendum in the Milton School District and budget problems in the town and city of Milton topped concerns at the Milton candidate forum tonight in the Shaw Municipal Building.
Newcomers Jon Cruzan and Fred Hookham debated the district's needs for a new high school. Cruzan, who co-chairs the high school design team, supports a referendum for a new high school. Hookham thinks the board should look at other options, such as a second middle school. Incumbent Al Roehl missed the debate because of illness.
Town board candidates Gail Slepekis, Michael Murphy, Marian Trescher and Gerald Frederick talked about the town's budget crunch and what can be done about it. They discussed ideas such as rearranging fire department spending, attracting industry to the town and examining the budget line-by-line to find cuts.
City council incumbents Tom Chesmore and David Schumacher said the budget was the most important issue facing the city. Challenger Lynda Clark said Milton's growth is the most important issue, and challenger David Adams said fully staffing the police department is the city's most pressing need.

What the town of Milton needs to do is throw out some of the dinosaurs they have holding onto city seats, they have no new ideas and are so far from knowing what the people want, they are in there holding down a community that is bursting at the seams to grow and expand and all they do is sit on there hands. They are suppose to represent the community and it's idea's but all they ever do is represent thereselves and there idea's. I think it's time for the town to stand up and let them know what we need and deserve in this growing community, and quit taking no for an answer.
