Law comes down on wild pigs
MADISON – Gov. Jim Doyle has signed a bill into law that declares wild pigs harmful wild animals.
Wild pigs have been a problem in southwestern Wisconsin for years. Their rooting destroys the ground and crops.
Designating the pigs as harmful means no one can possess, sell, buy, display or rehabilitate one.

garyprimer, unfortunately, it's probably the ONLY thing that happened this legislative session BECAUSE there aren't any pig lobbyists. Apparently, when there is no pay off, there is no incentive to have an opinion one way or another.

By the way, take that all you naysayers who claim that our state legislators didn't accomplish anything in their session. I'm sure that the wild pig lobby put up a fierce battle, and believe me, you want to be sitting outside the ring for that one.

A qoute from the DNR for all interested:
Feral pigs are considered unprotected wild animals with no closed season or harvest limit. Feral pigs may be removed any time throughout the year as long as those choosing to pursue them possess a valid small game license and the permission of the landowner where they intend to hunt. Also, landowners may shoot feral pigs on their own property without a hunting license, under DNR's animal nuisance control authority.

How do you rehabilitate a wild pig? Elect it as your state Representative or Senator. You'll be improving the pig's lot in life and raising the productivity of the state legislature.

Seriously, how about listing them as an unprotected species in state hunting regulations? I haven't read anything about Chronic Wasting Disease occuring in pigs, so some hunters who have given up deer hunting might take up pig hunting.

How do you rehabilitate a pig? I'll bet that the recidivism rate is unacceptably high.
