Federal aid will be coming to help pay the costs from the record snowfall that hit Wisconsin at the beginning of February.

And that news comes just as the state is spending the first day of spring bracing for another dose of snow. The spring season arrived this morning, just before 1 a.m.

The National Weather Service says a low pressure system is likely to produce several inches of snow in southern Wisconsin overnight tonight and tomorrow, with the heaviest amounts near the Illinois border.

Low temperatures tonight should range from around 10 above zero in the far north to the upper 20s in the far southwest. Tomorrow's highs are expected to be in the mid to upper 30s across the state.

Somewhat warmer conditions over the weekend should help melt the new snow.

President Bush announced yesterday that Wisconsin will get federal aid to help cover state and local government costs from the snow that hit February 5th and 6th. It left from a foot to well over two feet of snow in parts of southern Wisconsin.

Approved for the aid were Dane, Dodge, Green, Jefferson, Milwaukee, Rock, Walworth, and Washington counties.

obviously neither of you live in an area where you have battled flooding in your basement throughout February. Because of all the snow we recieved the river has been flooding into hundreds of homes in Janesville alone. We are battling mold and water. In my area, it is not considered a flood zone, but they have had to come and take people out of their homes because of the water. It has only happened 7 times in 35 years in this area and 2 of those times were within the last 6 months. Everyone is referring to it as a Freakish Year!

This was a once-in-thirty-year record snowfall. Either way you slice it, our tax dollars would have to pay for the cleanup anyway. Why not spread out the burden?

I Feel this is not right our goverment is overspending on just about everything lately. Than the state Of WI ask for money because we had a snowfall. This is WI and we do get snow. Seems simple to me. I have lived here for 40 years and I know it snows in WI and it is a hardship we pay for living here. Are the feds going to pay for air condtioning if it gets to hot this summer?? I hope not.
