More than 300 pardoned in last two decades
UNDATED (AP) - More than 300 people have been pardoned by Wisconsin governors in the last two decades.
A review by Gannett newspapers in Wisconsin found that criminals have been pardoned for a wide range of convictions. They include homicide, sexual intercourse with a child, armed robbery, arson, battery to a police officer and prostitution.
Gannett's review shows drug offenses are the most common type of crime for which people are pardoned - followed by burglary and theft.
On average, people are pardoned about 20 years after their crimes.
A pardon returns civil rights to an offender, including the right to own a gun, run for office and to get certain professional licenses.

gary, read the postcrescent article linked by Dan. It's gives an explanation of the process of obtaining a pardon. There is a Pardons Board who hear the case and make a recommendation to the govenor who then decides whether to issue the pardon.

I am not entirely familiar with the pardon process. Does the governor grant them without any oversight or confirmation by the legal system? If so, they seem to be something of an anachronism left over from the days of monarchal rule.

A pardon should be just that....let them be, and get on with your lives.
