JANESVILLE -- Police have arrested a man they suspect of robbing the Citgo gas station at 1002 S. Jackson St. at 7:41 p.m. tonight.

A clerk told police a man entered the store, said he had a gun and threatened to shoot her if she did not give him money, according to a news release. The man took money and fled.

Police said they caught a man after a short foot chase in the 600 block of West Delavan Drive. He was found trying to pull himself out of the Rock River, said Sgt. Kay Nickolaus. He told officers he had fallen through ice at the river's edge.

Officers gave the man dry clothing and took him to the Rock County Jail. He was identified as Maurice C. Thomas, 44. He was arrested on charges of armed robbery and resisting.

Edubswoman68, there may be a reason they did not tell us. You have a good point, but give it some time. We do not want kids, teens, or criminal-minded people doing a scavenger hunt in/around the river. Not a bad question, but maybe down the road if you have not heard the answer you should bring it up again.

Wonder if they got the gun or did the creep throw it somewhere for someone else to find it? It would have been nice to let the public know if they were able to retrieve it.

br549 - to answer your question, yes I would've said the same thing. Now run along and try to ruin the smoking discussion. We don't want you here.

justintimberlakerules, your sarcastic post serves another purpose by showing:

The longer a post is, the more likely it is that it'll be misread.

I am 40 years old, live in Janesville, and own firearms. I have never been so bored that I decided to rob anyone! It's not the city's job to provide entertainment to would be criminals

maybe if Janesville offered more for 44 year old men to do on a Wednesday night this wouldn't have happened. I personally blame the city manager for the "mistake" that this young man made. Before anybody starts judging him maybe you should get all of the facts. The paper only prints what they want to and they don't even have to print the truth. This man is one of the nicest, most caring people around and I don't think everyone should be ganging up on him when you don't even know him. Let to justice system judge him, not you.

(*sarcasm off*)
