Director leaves Armory
JANESVILLE-On Monday, Armory theater director Jim Tropp resigned.
On Thursday, the Armory’s production of “All Shook Up” opens. The show will go on, of course.
Armory owner Mick Gilbertson said stage manager Eleanor Moriarty took over the show on Monday—just a few days ahead of schedule.
Traditionally, a director and artistic team work on creating the show itself. When their work is done, the stage manager takes over, Gilbertson said.
It’s the stage manager’s job to run the show throughout its run.
Moriarty has been with the Armory since it opened in December 2005.
“We’re looking forward to a good run,” Gilbertson said.
Gilbertson would not comment on Tropp’s departure, saying it was a “private affair between me and my employee.”
Tropp had been at the Armory since its beginning. His first show, “Aida,” opened in February 2006. Previously, Tropp was active in local theater, directing a variety of shows with Theatre Unlimited.
Tropp was not immediately available for comment.
The Armory’s next show, “Brooklyn,” opens May 8 and rehearsals will start April 25, according to a Web site for actors and dancers.
Despite the upcoming rehearsals, Gilbertson said he would take his time finding a permanent theater director.

Jim's talent and creativity will be obviously missed at the Armory.
I wish him well.

With all due respect, The Armory is a Dinner Theater, a joint effort in dinner and theater. With that being said, Dan Hunter General Manager also resigned last week, but with professionalism and dignity givng a 30-day notice. Because he didn't leave in a tantrum, this isn't worthy of news?

"Lefted" The Armory? As opposed to "righted" The Armory?

Coming from Jim Tropp himself. I've seen two shows and I was pretty impressed considering the space. Good Job!
