Favres to take a year off from doing charitable events
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Brett Favre saw some of his career highlights shown on TV since news of his retirement came out earlier this week, and it gave him a funny feeling -- like he was almost being eulogized.
When Favre returned from his Mississippi home and met the press in Green Bay, he told reporters he watched those highlights the night before and -- quote -- I realized what it's like to die.''
On a more serious note, he talked about how he matured as a person during his 16 years as a Packer. He says it's reflected in charity work that he now considers much more important than football.
But he and his wife Deanna plan to take a year off from doing any events. That includes the Brett Favre Celebrity Softball Challenge that won't be held this year.
Deanna says they both need to take a rest.
She also says they hope to keep some involvement with Green Bay groups they've worked with, but on a smaller scale.
