BELOIT TOWNSHIP — A 19-year-old is being held at the Rock County Jail on sexual assault charges for what Town of Beloit Police call a "casual dating relationship" with a 14-year-old girl.

Detective Chris Luzinski says Logan D. Ferguson was arrested for two counts of second degree sexual assault of a child and a probation violation Wednesday. The incidents occurred two weeks ago at both a Town of Beloit residence in the 700 block of Columbine Dr and at a City of Beloit address in the 500 block of Highland Ave. Police confiscated two computers the teens supposedly used to communicate with each other.

The computers will be sent to the State Crime Lab for analysis.

Unfortunatly not only will he be punished for this activity. The young lady will be taught that she was "victimized" and will always feel that she must now be suspecious and fearful of men in relationships. The young man, will face a possible prison sentence of 80 years, and will forever have to register as a sex offender. Creating for him a lifetime of stigma including the inability to find housing, jobs and acceptance in the community. According to the article the young lady was certainly aware that this was a choice she was making and probably will go on to make many more choices to be involved sexually with other young men who will also face a lifetime of stigma. I understand that it is shocking to find possibly your child has selected to engage in sexual behaviour at a young age, but blaming it on the guy isn't the answer. It really shouldn't be shocking that young people are engaging in these activities at a younger age. The age of maturation for girls has rapidly decreased for the last 50 years. The other poster is right, fourteen is now the same physical maturation stage that 17 was in the 1950's.

LikesIke, I like the way you think! I won't resort to my name-calling of the TOB, but I'm surprised they didn't find an excuse to. (Sorry for being slightly off-topic.)

Prinny: I am not going to slam you for your view. Kids today to whatever they want for the most part and like you said unless you chain them to your side, how do you stop them? You have to hope that you have instilled values in them from early on and that they use those values wisely. I don't think it is fair to only punish one because he is older. She consented to the relationship. There are kids younger than her having sexual relationships. Some parents know and some don't. Some of those relationships will turn out like yours but most won't. They both chose to be in the relationship and to have sex. He should not be punished for a consentual relationship. As you stated sometimes it is the younger one who pursues the relationship.

Also the same thing would be said about my grandparents. He was 35, she was 17 when they met and married... :o)

I know that I am going to get slammed for my view on this, but oh well here goes. At 14 years old, our children have done all of the moral "growing" they are going to. And I don't care what kind of parent you are, the only way to keep your child from doing things like having sex at this age, if that's what they choose to do, is to chain them to your body! And honestly I don't see much of a difference between a 19 year old guy trying to have sex with my daughter and a 17 year old guy.... Either way, it is up to me to teach my children the dynamics of sexual relationships in hopes that IF they choose to be active at the age of 14, they are doing it knowledgably, and for the right reasons. I don't think this 19 year old was "preying" on this 14 year old. When I was 14, I was in a relationship with someone that was 18 as well... And guess what? I ended up marrying him and having 2 children. He was not "preying" on me, and if anything it was ME trying to progress the relationship. Had my parents had him arrested at the time, I probably would've rebelled more against them and COMPLETELY shut them out. Come on now... This is not the day and age of the "Donna Reed's"... live in the real world people! In fact for those of you that are saying, "my daughter would NEVER do that, I've taught her morals and beliefs to be a better person than that", your daughters are probably out doing everything under the sun as we speak, and they'll be the ones coming to you when they are pregnant or diseased! Be smart, not ignorant!

Both my Grandfathers were older than my Grandmothers. I am glad they aren't alive today, they would be in jail!

MCS: Yes they are! I see 12 year old girls who are pregnant and happy about it... Middle school kids have been caught performing sexual acts at the schools... Parents letting them date as early as 10????

booner....Why so picky. The police described this as a "casual dating relationship" for one reason,to put the public at ease so they would know that there wasn't a public danger....And paisleysdaddy I think your right ,the 14yr old of today is the 20yr old of the 1980-90's....right or wrong

True, it's wrong. They deserve punishment. I don't know about the felony thing though, booner. She wasn't raped or engaged against her will. A 14 year old has no business in that kind of relationship anyhow, but still. Honestly, I think the 14-year-old should be punished also in this type of situation, or at least referred to some sort of class to discuss the risks of being involved at her age. There are many more cases like this, just not told to authorities. Kids are doing this more and more 'casually'. They don't do it with the intention of being illegal.

I am shocked that the police describe this as a "casual dating relationship". Sex with a 14 year old in Wisconsin is a felony.
