DANE, Wis. (AP) - Detectives think they know who murdered a priest at a church in Dane 10 years ago. But they've never been able to collect enough evidence to prosecute.

On March 4, 1998 the Reverend Alfred Kunz was found lying in a pool of blood at St. Michael Catholic School. His throat had been cut.

Kunz had served at the parish since 1967.

Dane County Sheriff's Lieutenant Steve Gilmore says the investigation has focused on one person for the past couple of years, but they've never been able to cross the threshold to bring criminal charges. He won't say if that person is male or female.

Gilmore says the person lived in the area at the time of the slaying, but he won't say if the person is still in the area.

The case has generated about 10,000 pages of police reports and 1,000 pieces of potential evidence. Detective Kevin Hughes reviews the case regularly.
