Fearing higher prices, people buying Favre memorabilia
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) - Store owners say the sudden retirement of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre has boosted demand for his autographed memorabilia like footballs, pictures and helmets.
They expect some spike in prices but it's too soon to tell how much - and when.
The owner of Packer City Antiques, Mike Worachek, says it all depends on how much Brett continues to sign.
Favre told the team he was too tired to play anymore, ending a 17-year NFL career.
That news sent a rush of collectors to Worachek's store.
At $489 each, Worachek sold six Packer helmets autographed by Favre. The businessman says he wouldn't have sold any without the retirement announcement. He says the buyers feared the prices were going up.

With the exception of a few items that are nearly impossible to get for retailers, wholesale prices are NOT going up for much of the memorabilia Brett signs. So, if your favorite store is charging you more than they would have a week ago, they are being greedy. Jerseys are gone until September and helmets are very limited.
