ELKHORN—The lone suspect in a beating death case out of Bloomfield Township will not be charged for at least two weeks.

District Attorney Phil Koss said the autopsy reports for the late David J. Newer, 57, were not completed as hoped.

Suspect Jacob D. Newer, David's son, could potentially be charged with homicide, Koss said. He was arrested for substantial battery and is currently being held in the Walworth County Jail.

Koss and defense attorney Jeff Krebs agreed to delay charges until the report is completed. Jacob Newer was expected to be charged tomorrow.

Jacob Newer, 26, is suspected of beating his father to death inside a room at the Inn-B-Tween Motel on County H between Pell Lake and Lake Geneva.

David Newer was beaten sometime during the early morning of Feb. 25, according to police.

Jacob Newer and his uncle, Frank Newer, David's brother, took David to a hospital approximately 14 hours after a scuffle between Jacob and David, Koss said at a bail hearing last week.

David died two days later at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee.

northwoods -- I don't know if the Gazette staff saw your comment (or maybe a phone call was made?) but I'm seeing that the uncle's name says Frank, which is what you say is the correct name.

You could at least get the uncle's name correct, it is not Fred, it is Frank Newer.
This was a terrible thing that happened. Let's hope that justice is done right in this case.
