Janesville's Case Feed building could be torn down

JANESVILLE — One of Janesville's oldest buildings could be torn down in April if the owner doesn't contact the city or repair it.

Building and Development Services Manager Gale Price says the city will be sending a "raze or repair" order to the owner this week. That notice gives the owner 30 days to make arrangements with the city or else the building will be torn down. Price says it's a last resort for the city, especially since the building has so much potential.

He says the city doesn't often purchase dilapidated buildings, but if citizens are interested in purchasing it for restorations he has the owner's contact information.

Coolhandluke: the bike businsess moved to a larger location, the case feed owners retired, up until then those building were used and visited.
I still think a antique store or consignment shop would be perfect in the old case builing. This is one of the oldest builings in Janesville, it should be saved if at all possible. It's a wonderful old building with so much possiblities, wish I had the money to restore it myself.

The building is an eyesore. Get rid of it. Also, look at the location. It's to busy of an intersection to place another business. Look at the previous businesses gone. The Bike Store building, out of business, empty and run down, and also an old bar that burned to the ground. This is not a very exciting location.

It may be a nice old building to some, but it has been for sale for some time and apparently no one thinks it's worth purchasing. It is VERY expensive to rehab an old building so if someone hasn't bought it by now, it's unlikely anyone will soon. I think the city has the right to get rid of an eyesore (which is what I think it is) after waiting this long for someone to make a move. But then, I don't know that a vacant lot will look any better.

I hate to see that building torn down. I always thought it would make a great place for a antique store. Wish I had the money to do it. Any idea how old the building is? Can it be saved by declaring it a historical landmark? It would be a shame to lose another part of Janesville's history.

Maybe B'moon can buy it. She's into saving old buildings.

Or would she rather have no one buy it so it can be razed then she can have one more thing to yelp about?

The building is at the corner of Rockport and Center. There appears to be a residential apartment above the commercial storefront.

Great article!(sarcasm)
I'm sure there are many questions a prospective buyer might ask, the first being: Where is it?
