Madison man dies in marathon
LITTLE ROCK – Marathon officials in Arkansas say a Wisconsin man has collapsed and died after completing the 26.2-mile race.
According to race officials, 27-year-old Adam Nickel of Madison was pronounced dead late Sunday morning near the finish line.
Emergency personnel tried to revive Nickel until an ambulance arrived with a defibrillator. He couldn’t be revived and was pronounced dead.
Race director Gina Marchese-Pharis offered condolences and prayers to Nickel’s family and friends on behalf of the Little Rock Marathon Committee.
Temperatures were in the high 50s during the start of the race and climbed to the mid-60s by late morning.

My condolences to the family, and my admiration goes to this man. Running a marathon requires hours of hard, grueling, unpaid work, and the completion is the only reward.
nutty,that was uncalled for.

One clue as to the cause of death is in the last paragraph: "Temperatures were in the high 50s during the start of the race and climbed to the mid-60s by late morning". If he came down from Wisconsin, he was likely not able to acclimate that quickly. I can relate, something similar happened to me once, it was the only race I didn't finish. My condolences to the family.
