The Wisconsin State Patrol is asking travelers to avoid the eastbound (southbound) lanes of the Wisconsin River bridge on Interstate 90/39/94 near Poynette.

“Due to the warming weather, the metal braces on the Wisconsin River bridge eastbound have erupted above road level, making it hazardous to vehicles trying to drive over it,” the State Patrol said in a news release issued at 3:37 p.m. “We expect the two right lanes to be closed for repairs for at least one to two hours.”

"Traffic in the Portage area southbound is significantly delayed," a news release said.

The State Patrol later issued detour instructions: Eastbound I90/94 traffic should take Interstate 39 north to Highway 16 to Highway 51 to Highway 60 in Arlington and back to the I-90/94/39.

Traffic headed south on I-39 should also take Highway 16 to Highway 51 to Highway 60 in Arlington and back to the Interstate.

How about instead of raising taxes, cutting some programs. We are one of the top 5 taxed states and are way in the hole. Raising our taxes and making us possibly the highest taxed state will not solve a thing, judging by how poorly our state government manages the revenue they already collect.

Yet it is this Governor who has no problem with raiding the transportation trust fund to pay for extra social spending that he doesn't have the political courage to seek higher taxes for. But I guess it’s easier to ask for higher taxes to pay for crumbling bridges that to ask for higher taxes to redistribute to potential voters.

If it's not Doyle, it will be the next one. Infrastructure does not make for glamorous politics.

We can be assured that very little will actually be done about stuff like this with Doyle siphoning huge amounts of designated highway maintenance money out for his political crony payments.

My thoughts exactly. I still hate bridges- ever since I was a kid and the sunshine bridge in Florida collapsed-just a few hours after we drove over it. Hope people have sense enough to keep off of it.
