WAUKESHA – A 72-year-old semitrailer truck driver escaped injury Saturday in the crash of a collision with a freight train, police said.

Lt. William Graham said the collision severely damaged the train engine and sent precast concrete from the truck onto College Avenue.

The semi driver was delivering the load of concrete to a construction site when he backed its flatbed onto the tracks, Graham said. The crossing signal activated at that point, the lieutenant said, but the driver couldn’t get off the track in time, and the truck was struck by a northbound Canadian National Freight train.
