ORFORDVILLE -- A 6-year-old girl survived after falling out of a sport-utility vehicle as it rolled over in a one-vehicle crash around 9:30 p.m. Friday, the Rock County Sheriff’s Department reports.

The girl and the driver, 29 year-old Tina L. Heinle of Orfordville, were treated for non-life threatening injuries at Beloit Memorial Hospital.

Slippery roads and speed contributed to the crash on South County K near West Cleophas Road, about 6 miles south of Orfordville, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

“Heinle lost control of her vehicle on the slippery roadway. The vehicle swerved off the road and struck the snow-covered embankment on the east side of the road. The vehicle then rolled over one and a half times, ejected the 6 year-old child and came to rest on its passenger side,” according to the news release.

“Heinle was not wearing her seat belt, and a child booster seat was not utilized,” the release states.

Did anyone ask if she was using her cell phone at the time? It wouldn't surprise me if that was the reason.

Why was she going so fast if the roads were slippery. people need to start slowing down more when the conditions are bad out.and why wasnt her child in a car seat. I hope she got a tickett for that.

The LAW in Wisconsin: Children must be in a car seat until they reach age 4 and in a booster seat until they reach age 8
My kids are always properly buckled, but I sure see a lot of kids getting picked up at school, and around town who are not. Maybe we need some kind of awareness campaign?

I'm glad nobody got hurt, but hope the driver is awarded with a very hefty fine and some jail time. Having an infant unsecured in a vehicle is absolutely inexcusable. I'd be interested to see, in a follow-up article, whether alcohol was a factor. Given the time of the crash, it's a fair bet.

Glad to see the word "accident" was not used as this crash (speed + conditions) and the result (ejection from vehicle) were both completely avoidable. It was a small miracle that neither sustained serious injury.

If you truly love your child, you'll properly restrain them AND YOURSELF in a moving motor vehicle. No excuses.
