UPDATE: Amber Alert canceled; Deputy shoots suspect in Walworth County
KENOSHA—Authorities say a toddler has been found safe after her father abducted her, but a deputy shot and killed the father today.
Kenosha police issued an Amber Alert after 41-year-old Antonio J. Torres told them he and his daughter would not be seen alive again. Torres was found driving east on Highway 50 in Walworth County when a high-speed chase started. Torres pulled over on County H near Pell Lake, Kenosha police said.
Torres held his daughter hostage and waved a weapon, possibly a shotgun, police said. Kenosha Police Chief John Morrissey said a Walworth County deputy fatally shot Torres after Torres showed a weapon.
Police say Torres called them this morning and told them he had just beaten up the girl’s mother and she needed an ambulance. When officers arrived they found the woman, but no sign of Torres or the couple’s 22-month-old daughter, Liliana.
Torres then called officers and said the next time they saw him and his daughter, both would have been killed, law enforcement sources said.
The child was unharmed but taken to Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn where her mother is expected to be reunited with her.

Another victim in this tragedy is the officer who fired the fatal shot. The deputy was doing their sworn duty and thankfully in this situation, saved an innocent life. However, this is something that the officer will have to deal with for the rest of their life. Please remember that those who protect us are “people” too, and we all have the same emotions and feelings. The taking of a human life by a law enforcement officer is a very traumatic episode in that individual’s life. My thoughts and prayers go out to the officer and all involved.

The good thing is that she is only 22 months old. She shouldn't remember anything about this bad apple.
