MADISON—An Edgerton man who lost control of his motorcycle Sunday night was in critical condition Thursday morning at University Hospital in Madison.

Todd A. Simmons, 55, of 98 Hickory Nut Lane, Edgerton, was hurt when he lost control on wet pavement as he turned from County N onto Highway 59 in Milton Township, the Rock County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The sheriff’s office issued citations charging Simmons with fourth-offense drunken driving, a misdemeanor, and driving on a revoked license.

From bisociety.org..."Head injuries occur in more than two-thirds of all automobile accidents"
Are you wearing a helmet when you drive an automobile???
If not you maybe selfish and not thinking about others...

I am sorry when I ride my bike I wear a helmet. Which is the original article it said he was not.
I don't understand why people drink and drive. It is not that hard to get a d.d.. or stay home and drink. Everyone talks about his family, was he thinking about his family when he got on that bike drunk. I wear my helmet, I wear my seatbelt. I can think about someone else besides my self.

LONGTIME...well said. It is easy for some to throw stones when their sins have not been identified by others. It is never a good situation when someone gets hurt, whether it be from a drunk driver or a sober driver. Prayers to the family. And please always remember there are reasons people make ill choices. There are Always Reasons.

sarah, my post was to show the ignorance of people posting about wearing helmets on motorcycles while ignoring other head injury scenereos only because they don't participate in motorcycling.
The information I posted is real and maybe you should figure a way to find information so you can make an informed decison.

OK, so my comment is a few people removed from those who really know, but I was told this guy spent days and days and hours and hours sandbagging people's homes that he did not even know.
*
The folks I heard from in Janesville said this quick little story was far too shallow, that there was a lot more to Mr. Simmons than the impression that was created here.
*
Life is a duality - all of us have some bad in us, done some bad things, but all of us are made in the image of Christ, and in all of us is a core of goodness.
*
I am also told Mr. Simmons may not come home, that his injuries are too overwhelming. Be thankful this was a single victim accident, yes, but he is still someone's son, perhaps someone's father...try to think of those things too, as others here rail about DUIs and helmet laws.

oh, ok I must of missed that one. Thanks for clearing that up.
But as I said, I don't think that is the biggest issue with this incident.

maybe I just missed it, but I read this article 3 times and I never saw anything that said he wasn't wearing a helmet or that he has a head injury. Not that I am saying I think he was wearing a helmet. But a helmet is not going to prevent all head injuries or injuries in general. I think the biggest issue that needs to be addressed is not helmet safety or whether or not motorcycles are more dangerous. I think the biggest issue is this man was driving a vehicle without a license and was driving intoxicated (caught for the 4th time, not to mention all the times he has probably done it and not got caught) I don't see how a 4th offense of drunk driving is a misdemeanor. We have all said it before, Wisconsin really needs to start cracking down on drunk drivers, because their current system is obviously NOT working!
I am sorry this man is hurt, and I totally feel for his family, but I thank God that no one else was hurt in this incident.

What point is made? DUI is bad, wet pavement is slippery or you go to the hospital when you're critically injured?

While reading up on head injuries I noticed a statement that said that head injuries in autos was a major factor, so all those in autos need to wear helmets also.
I also read that in one study 41% of all head injuries in vehicle accidents were alcohol related. So we need a law that states that if you drink you must wear a helmet.
Another study stated that 25% of the head injuries tracked were involving falls with elderly and children. So there is another law, if you are elderly or a child you must wear a helmet at all times.
These laws are needed because I am sick and tired of paying for people who are being so irresponsible as to be elderly or young.
