Thousands may not get stimulus payments
MADISON — The Internal Revenue Service says that more than 77,000 Wisconsin residents will not get their economic stimulus check from the federal government because they have not filed the appropriate paperwork. The deadline is Oct. 15.
Anyone who files a tax return gets the payment. But people with at least $3,000 in qualifying income who don’t normally file a tax return must fill out other paperwork with the IRS to get the payment.
The report shows 68 percent of those who haven’t filed yet are over age 65. And 84 percent are over age 50.
U.S. Senator Herb Kohl is calling on the IRS and Social Security Administration to increase outreach efforts to those people.
Payments to individuals are $300. Married couples get $600.

I was thinking the same thing Gary. The $900 I got wasn't enough to pay off all my debt. But I did pay off two credit cards....I could use another few hundred.

I wasted my $900 on naughty behavior. It was fun.

I hate to see all of those checks go to waste. I would be glad to volunteer to stimulate the economy with them as God and George Bush intended. Maybe some of you would be willing to help. I can't possibly cash and spend them all as they would total at least $23 million and probably much more. Just think what that money could do for the economy in Wisconsin. Who would have thought that it would be so difficult to give away money?

Wigirl:
Right on the money, a single person with more than $75k income or a married couple over 150K, in combined income, loses the stimulus payment. For those who otherwise qualify it's $600 for a single person $1200 for a married couple plus $300 for each qualifying child.
Unless your income tax liability is less than $600 for a single person or $1200 for a married couple your amount received maybe less. Some facts cited in the story are way off base. The general premise....you must file to get the stimulus payment, is right on however.

Your article states that everyone who files a tax return gets a stimulus check. That is not true. If your Adjusted Gross Income is too high, you will not get a check. The IRS will verify this for you on their web site (www.irs.gov) if you're not sure.

I don't think you have to 'pay' in to get a check. You have to file a tax return though.

No - it depends on how much you pay in. If you pay in less than 600 - you get 300 in return. My girlfriend only got 300. I got 548. It wasn't a set amount.

I thought indiviuals get $600, and married couples get $1200. Then its $300 per child you have.
