County flood damage estimated at $42 million
Flood damage in Rock County is estimated at $42 million, according to county officials.
Representatives from FEMA met with Rock County Emergency Management Coordinator Shirley Connors on Wednesday to assess damages in Rock County.
The $42 million estimate includes damages related to businesses, residential, public infrastructure and agriculture. The figure is expected to increase with continued flooding and evaluation of additional damage.
Rock County Emergency Management has distributed 400,000 sandbags, including 18,700 sandbags donated by Lab Safety Supply of Janesville. The Rock County Highway Department has continuously delivered sand throughout this process.
On Wednesday, the Wisconsin National Guard deployed 35 unarmed guardsmen to assist the Rock County Sheriff’s Office with security and traffic control in and around the flooded areas.
Even though Rock County has not been declared a Federal Disaster Area, Wisconsin residents can report their property damages in two different ways. They can call 800-621-3362 or go to www.fema.gov and report damages online.
Citizens impacted by flooding may contact the Rock County Communication Center at (608) 757-2244.

Uh, the Communications Center is the 911 Center. But here, they're obviously trying to get an overview of the damage, which will help FEMA determine whether a disaster declaration is needed.
