Wis. DOT secretary orders bypass built on I-94
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wisconsin Transportation Secretary Frank Busalaachi says he has ordered a bypass built on Interstate 94 in the Johnson Creek area to get the road reopened.
The order came after authorities said the interstate could be closed for weeks due to flooding.
Transportation officials now say they have signed an emergency contract with a company to build a crossover lane that will allow one lane of traffic going east and one going west.
Busalaachi says work crews are already on the scene Tuesday getting the area ready for grading and paving. He says he hopes the work will be done by the end of the week.
Officials closed the interstate’s westbound lanes last week as water rose in the Crawfish and Rock rivers.

Sorry, my bad. You are correct, the government is always right. From now on I'll believe everything they tell me.

Complaining due to mother nature is hilarious what ever needs to be done to help this disaster is more than welcome and it is sad everyone can be so judgemental as to what the gavernment can do. Did any of you have pre-knowledge of this act of GOD if so you should have taken your engineering degree to the Capital and had the job done before we were in this mess...........

Once again proving that the easiest thing to find in America is someone to tell you how to do a job that they've never done and have no idea what goes into doing.

Everyone always knows best don't they? I am sure these detour people HAVE NO IDEA what they are doing. Sounds like you know your routes, use them tink~!

This is just a crossover (like they used on 90 a few years back for bridge work). It just goes through the median. I hope helps to clarify a bit. I used to do highway construction, and by the title of this article, I was imagining some sort of permanant bypass until I read it.

This is NOT going to be "built to meet Interstate highway standards". It's going to be standard construction-zone quick-and-dirty, made to last months, not decades.
.
tinkerb45, the powers that be know that people from the area will find their own routes because they know the back roads. It's the inter-state (literally) that they want to -- well, really, to stay away completely. Right now they don't want to have a backup of semis anywhere near the swollen Rock. The best place for them to get across IS Newville.

Remarkable how fast they can whip up a useable crossover lane built to meet Interstate highway standards and it takes 10 months dig up a one-mile stretch of road and replace it in other municipalities. But I'm glad to hear they are taking some action.

The I94 detour via Hwy83 to I43 to I90 has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever seen. People that live in Oconomowoc, Ixonia, Johnson Creek are forced off the interstate at Delafield and then have to battle the thousands of other drivers around this idiotic detour. Why don't they close the interstate at Johnson Creek? Warn drivers ahead of time that the detour to Lake Mills & Madison is via Hwy 83 but if you're dumb enough to ignore the warnings I'd force them off the interstate at Johnson Creek & make them turn around back east on I94. At least that way the people that need to get to Oconomowoc, Ixonia, and Johnson Creek can still get there. Idiots.
