JANESVILLE--The Rock River will continue to draw spectators and aggravate residents for a few more days as it isn't expected to crest until Wednesday.

The river is expected to reach 14 feet in Afton and then take as long as it took to come up to go back down, city officials said.

The city now is holding tight until then.

“We are basically in response mode as issues come up,” said Jack Messer, public works director. “We’re not actively performing any operations. We’re just monitoring now.”

The river was at 13.05 feet in Afton this morning and rising about 1/8 inch an hour.

Does anyone know if donations of clothing, etc. are being accepted for the people that have been evacuated from their homes? I could not find anything on the site & there is no answer at Red Cross and some of the places I called they did not know.
If so, where are the donations to be taken? Thank you.

I think we all need to pitch in & help our fellow neighbors anyway we are able.
My heart goes out to all affected by this.

Now would be a good time to check on any senior or diaabled friends and relatives whom you know live in or near floodplain areas. Even if the water isn't too close to them, they would probably appreciate someone showing they took the time to think of them.

The National Guard is under the control of the Governor, and there needs to be a specific request from a local government saying that their resources (including mutual aid) are exhausted. Once requests are filed with the state emergency management office, that office distributes assistance on its judgement of need.

Rosewood, I actually talked to someone from Janesvilles National Guard who was being sent up near Jefferson I think. I believe they are going where they are needed in Wisconsin. Its sad to say we are doing a lot better then other cities and counties. I'm sure when clean up duty comes the National Guard will be here. Tell then I guess its up to us to help each other!

How come we didn't use the janesville National guards-I know they would have been more than happy to help. I thought they were suppose to used for disasters.
