Flood 'emergency' issued in Janesville, Beloit Township
A declaration of flood emergency has been issued for the cities of Janesville and Beloit and a portion of Beloit Township.
The proclamations begin the process of having the area declared a disaster area by the governor and president, which makes the governmental entities and property owners eligible for benefits.
Janesville City Manager Steve Sheiffer said the declaration empowers him to issue orders to the public beyond normal ordinances that must be complied with.
Water levels continue to rise, and here’s the latest, according to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office:
--Rock River in Newville is at 13.01 feet with flood stage at 10 feet.
--Rock River in Indianford is at 16.06 feet with flood stage at 15 feet.
--Rock River in Afton is at 12.65 feet with flood stage at 9 feet.
--Sugar River in Avon Township is at 7.22 feet with flood stage at 5 feet.
