Flood warnings revised
The National Weather Service’s flood warning for the Rock River was revised this morning.
A record flood in Rock County still is expected. The river is expected to peak at the Afton gauge on Tuesday, at 13.3 feet. A previous prediction put the peak on Monday.
The NWS continues to warn of flooding at the following locations:
-- Rock River at Horicon affecting Dodge County
-- Rock River at Watertown affecting Jefferson County
-- Rock River at Jefferson affecting Jefferson County
-- Rock River at Fort Atkinson affecting Jefferson County
-- Rock River at Newville affecting Jefferson and Rock Counties
-- Rock River at Indianford affecting Rock County
-- Rock River at Afton affecting Rock County
-- Sugar River at Brodhead affecting Green and Rock Counties
At Brodhead:
-- Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
-- Flood stage is 5.0 feet. The sugar river is at 7.31 feet and falling. A level of 7.4 feet can be considered to be about a two-year flood. There is widespread agricultural and lowland flooding in the Brodhead area. Downstream in the Avon bottoms area of Rock County. There is flooding in Sugar River Park.
Also, the dam at Phantom Lake near Mukwonago still is in danger of failing, the NWS said this morning. If it fails, Interstate 43 between Highways 83 and 164 might need to be closed.
