As the Rock River continues to rise, the city of Janesville and towns of Janesville, Rock and Beloit asked the Rock County sheriff to declare a slow/no wake zone on the portion of the river that flows within their jurisdictions.

The sheriff’s office will post slow/no wake signs at their boat landings, and the restriction will be enforced until the municipalities ask that it be lifted, according to a sheriff's office news release.

Slow/no wake speed is the minimum speed at which a motorized watercraft is able to move and maintain adequate steerage control, according to the sheriff's office.

"Traveling even slightly above that minimum speed and creating a wake of any discernable size constitutes a violation of the restriction," the news release states.

Patrol boats from the DNR and the sheriff’s office will be enforcing the restriction, the news reelase states.
