Flood watch, warnings issued for this area
A flood watch continues for the Rock River at Newville from early Wednesday morning until further notice, according to the National Weather Service. At 4 a.m. today the stage was 8.49 feet. Flood stage is 10 feet. Major flooding is possible.
These flood warnings, also have been issued by the National Weather Service this morning:
Until Saturday morning for the Sugar River at Brodhead. The river will continue rising to 8.4 feet by Tuesday night. Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. Floodwaters are over Highway T in Rock County and there is flooding in Sugar River Park in the Avon Bottoms area of Rock County. There also is widespread agricultural and lowland flooding in the Brodhead area.
Until Tuesday afternoon for Turtle Creek, near Clinton. The forecast is for the creek water to rise above flood stage—8 feet—by early this morning and to continue rising to 8.1 feet by after midnight Tuesday. Minor flooding is forecast.
From this morning until further notice for the Rock River at Afton. The forecast is for the river to rise above flood stage—9 feet—by this morning and to continue rising near 11.4 feet by Sunday morning. Additional rises are possible thereafter. Water surrounds at least two homes near the river in the Afton area. Numerous secondary roads in the Afton area are closed to traffic. Floodwaters also affect South River Road on the south side of Janesville.
