LA FARGE — Parts of La Farge are being evacuated due to flooding.

Vernon County officials are evacuating 10 to 15 homes on the town’s south side due to rising flood waters in the Kickapoo River. A temporary shelter is being set up at the La Farge high school.

The state had urged residents throughout southwest Wisconsin to prepare to evacuate today as storms and floods were expected to hit the state, causing rivers and creeks to flood.

Authorities report 40 road closures in Vernon County. That’s more than during the floods that struck the area last August.

An evacuation order is also now issued for residents living by the Yttri-Primmer dam near the Kickapoo in central Vernon County.

Forecasts call for continued rain throughout the evening.
