The Janesville City Council has scheduled its first information listening session before Monday’s meeting.

Council members who are able to attend the session will gather at 6 p.m. in the fourth-floor break room in City Hall, 18 N. Jackson St. Listening sessions are scheduled the second Monday of the month before council meetings. Council members hope the sessions will increase communication with residents.

To contact council members, go to the city’s website at www.ci.janesville.wi.us or call the city manager’s office at (608) 755-3177.

Thank you for your response.
I should have qualified my statement by saying this was my experience with the past council. It seems they would "listen" but were not really interested in "hearing."
I will erase past experiences and go forward with an open mind and renewed optimism.

JohnDoe,

I am sure that it goes without saying, but just to make it perfectly clear: from watching the council in the past, and from being a part of the council, it is very clear to me that the council cares deeply about the input from the residents. In the past two months, we have made a number of important changes to the agenda to make addressing the council as easy as possible.

I agree with some of the posters in that there is only so much that is within the Council's control to do anything about. But at the same time, communication IS what this is all about, and if there is a problem in the City, especially if it is an issue that involves a number of residents, or can be resolved through a policy change or adjustment, the Council needs to know about it, so we could have the opportunity to do something about it.

Finally, if you are writing your comments because you feel that your concerns have not been addressed in the past, I invite you to come to this (or any other) listening session and express your views to the Council. I hope to see you there soon.

Also, leave the psychotic delusions and psychopathic lying at home.

For example: Don't bring your cookie jar as a special guest for the purpose of explaining democracy.

More like make sure you are talking about something they can actually do something about. Like don't talk to them about your child's teacher, the county jail, the state legislature, the state of healthcare in the nation, etc. The city council cannot do anything about it.
Also, if you see a streetlight out, or the garbage was not picked up on your street, call city services instead of waiting until a council meeting to tell the council members. They will just refer it to the appropriate staff member. Call city services instead. Things will get taken care of a lot faster. The city council does overall policy and vision steering, not the day to day operations.
